Design of Experiments

In many situations there are many factors that can be changed, such as a marketing person changing price, packaging, advertising elements, etc. The problem is that if you tried every possible combination it would take forever to find the best one.

Design of Experiments is the name given the mathematical techniques used to set up and analyse combinations of factors to find the optimum set.
