There are some applications where information is not numeric and where a pictorial display is either inappropriate or impossible.

Description

Probably the largest non-numeric, non-graphical group of tools have a sociological nature, in that they have a focus in helping groups work together. Thus, for example, Brainstorming has deliberate rules about not criticizing other people, as this can cause them to be less creative.

These tools do not have the dramatic display value of other tools, but they are important in the many situations where numeric methods are not available, and are often integrated with the use of other tools that add structure to their output.
